THE OPPORTUNITY: 

Reporting to the Geology Superintendent the Senior Pit Technician is responsible for ore spotting, and collecting, preparing and recording pit and stockpile grade control samples and quality ore duties.

This is a permanent full-time position which operates on a FIFO 8/6 roster from Perth or DIDO from Port Hedland.  

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Train the ore spotters in best practice ore spotting and mining extraction.
  • Train the excavator operators in geology best practice for ore mining and manage the Excavator Operator Permit program.
  • Track the compliance with the Mining Clean Ore Commandments, safety interactions and regular inspections, and geology stock levels, along with other KPIs.
  • Complete accurate recording of samples and sample sheets.
  • Assist with the receipt and processing of assay data.
  • Assist with the sieving and Chip traying of samples as required for geologists to log.
  • Stock take and ordering of equipment and consumables for use in Grade control programs.
  • Assist with data entry as required.
  • Ore spotting: work with the excavator operator, and any other operators involved in earthmoving works proximal to or within an orebody to maximise recovery of ore and minimize any potential for dilution.
  • Ore Spotting: to direct haul truck operators to the correct ROM pad finger, stockpile or waste dump based upon the material loaded into their haul truck.
  • Assist geologists and surveyors with ore mark outs and delineation of ore blocks.
  • To assist with in-pit sampling, SG test work and any other in pit duties as required by the mining team.
  • Evaluate performance of Pit Technicians in line with Position objectives/KPI’s and assist with development plans.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Current West Australian driver’s license
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to record and process data.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Software.
  • Collaborative, team participant.
  • Physical fitness to meet the demands of heat and outdoor physical work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and collaborate to achieve results.
